What's wrong with brown?

Looking through design magazines, shows, and blogs, there is one colour that seems to be missing. Brown. I understand that fashion tends come and go and that gray is back after some poor choices gave it a bad reputation the 90's.  My washroom is proof of that.

The trend in fashion seems to be that anything goes. We are free to embrace whatever style, trend, or decade and still look fashionable. Bell bottom jeans? Go for it! Skinny, bootleg, high rise, low rise - sure! So what about your home. I think brown has been a safe colour choice for years and inexpensive furniture has been readily available.

My living room will be brown. It will be brown because of  a couch my husband purchased second hand from a friend. It's a decent couch, brown distressed leather that is also a pull out for a double bed. Originally, it was in our basement in the man cave. When we moved, we got rid of our well loved L shaped sofa from our living room and had plans to replace it with a new beautiful gray couch to update our decor. Plans went sideways when we realized that the hulking brown leather couch should not fit down either staircase to the basement. So, refusing to anything but keep it, it's now in the living room to stay. Hopefully I can find a way for our brown living room to still feel fresh and current.

My First Post!

Another blog about life on the Internet! Quelle surprise.  So why start one? First and foremost, therapy for me.  A place to share my thoughts, reflect, and document life as I know it.  In the past six months my life has been full of change. A little over 6 months ago I was heavily pregnant, had left the workforce, my husband was changing jobs, was trying to pack for an upcoming move, and had sold our car and wasn't sure how we were getting to the hospital or home with a new baby.

What will I be writing about? My quest to turn our house into a home. Our starter bungalow was renovated top to bottom over 4.5 years with love by my husband and I. It was cozy and perfect for us and our animals. As a new family of three, we are now in a bigger house where we have already made (but by no means finished) significant progress but there is still so much to do. I also hope to write about ways that I can make my life better. Through food, yummy food, exercise, and life experiences.

So the title? I want to grow as a person and explore passions, hobbies, and hone talents - and cultivate some new ones! Build our house and nest to make it home.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the journey.
